LOGANVILLE - Mayor Tim Barron announced Thursday night that he intends to seek posthumous citizenship for a Loganville soldier who was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq last week.

Christian Rojas-Gallego enlisted June 17, 2002 and was assigned to the Stryker brigade at Fort Lewis last year. Barron said the young specialist was both trying to provide for his family and gain U.S. citizenship through military service. Council members voted unanimously to grant Barron the authority to draft a resolution seeking U.S. citizenship to be granted to the fallen soldier.

Four roads targeted for repairs

Four roads were identified at Thursday night's City Council meeting to be repaired using Walton County sales tax funds allotted to the city. Old Zion Cemetery Road, Huntington Drive, Tara Boulevard and Lee Byrd Road will be upgraded this year.

Old council chambers demolition project to cost more

City Manager Bill Jones reported Thursday night that the demolition of the old council chambers will cost more than originally planned. Asbestos was found in the roof of the

building, upping the cost to demolish the structure from about $24,000 to $31,715.

Main Street Trick-or-Treat planned

Loganville will host the 8th annual Main Street Trick or Treat, a fall event planned for city youngsters. This year's event will be held from 3:30 p.m. to

6:30 p.m. Oct. 27, just in time for Halloween.
