Gas leak shuts road
LOGANVILLE - A construction crew digging near the roadway Tuesday caused a gas leak that caused authorities to close parts of Cooper Road in Loganville.
According to a Gwinnett County Fire Department press release, Lawrenceville Gas responded to the scene to stop the leak.
Texaco, Chevron and a dry cleaners in the area were evacuated shortly before 10 a.m. and allowed to return to their businesses shortly before 11 a.m.
Vandals tamper with bus kits
BUFORD - A Buford City Schools transit director noticed someone had been tampering with items inside school buses Sunday, a police report said.
Several fire extinguishers and road triangle kits had been removed from buses and strewn about the bus parking lot located at South Hill Street and Buford Highway.
The transit director reported some children had been seen in the parking lot on previous occasions but was unsure who was responsible for removing the items.
Man cashes ticket, then robs store
LILBURN - A man who robbed a Lilburn gas station Sunday tried to redeem a lottery ticket before raiding the store's register.
According to a police report, a black man between 45 and 55 years old walked into the Shell Food Mart at 4032 Stone Mountain Highway asking to cash out a lottery ticket on which he won $1. The man then wanted to buy a cigar.
When the cashier opened the register the man demanded money then went behind the counter, took money from the drawer, a pack of cigarettes and then fled.
The store clerk said he did not believe the man had a gun.
