Alla Catherine Marchenko, 71, of Sugar Hill, GA died Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Embracing Hospice in Snellville. A native of Ukraine, she came to the US with her late parents, Andrew and Olga Zalisko in 1949. In 1955, she married Mykola (Mike) Marchenko. Alla and Mike lived in Chicago and New York before settling in the Atlanta area. A passionate bridge player, she was instrumental in forming the Ukranian Association of Georgia and in founding the St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. A loving and devoted mother, Alla is survived by her daughters, Catherine Saidat of Anderson, SC and Natalie Connery of Lawrenceville, GA; sons, George Marchenko of Richmond, VA and Bil Marchenko of Dacula, GA; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at 10:00 am at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Cumming, GA, with Father Bohdan Maruszak officiating. Internment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 6, 2007 from 7:00-9:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Marchenko's memory to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or 1.800.ACS.2345.
