Local teacher elected to state PAGE board

LAWRENCEVILLE - Tim Mullen, a national board certified science teacher at Richards Middle School, has been elected to a three-year term as a member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators Board of Directors representing the organization's fourth district.

This will be Mullen's third term as district 4 director. He has served as a facilitator for the PAGE National Board Certification Assistance Program and as a building contact and system contact.

Car dealership auctions off trip

LAWRENCEVILLE - A local car dealer is trying to raise $75,000 to buy 2,500 backpacks and school supplies.

Steve Kendrick is the general manager of Infiniti of Gwinnett and Subaru of Gwinnett. He has set up a nonprofit organization and is selling $100 raffle tickets to win a $33,000 trip, including airfare, to Necker Island, a private island in the British Virgin Islands.

Each ticket will also admit one person to an event at

7 p.m. Friday at Infiniti of Gwinnett featuring "American Idol" finalist Diana DeGarmo and Vikki Locke from Star 94.

Three students get scholarships

HOSCHTON - Three Mill Creek High School 2006 football seniors were awarded scholarships.

Christopher Tarver, John Certusi and Tyler Reed received the Win for Wyn scholarship in honor of Thomas "Wyn" Goodwin Scott V who died during the 1999 football season.

Tarver will play football at Mississippi College, Certusi will play at the Citadel and Reed will attend the University of Georgia.

Students attend leadership event

SUWANEE - Four North Gwinnett High School students attended a youth leadership conference.

Chloe Babcock, Ian Day, Russell Gibson and Conner Zessinare all Junior ROTC cadets. They attended the Military Order of World Wars Youth Leadership Conference in Charleston, S.C.

Hockey announcer helps raise funds for senior services

LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett Gladiators announcer Chris Peace helped raise more than $30,000 for Gwinnett County Senior Services.

He sold a set of Bridgestone tires, a balloon ride from Remax and vacation packages as a live auctioneer.

Friends of Gwinnett County Senior Services and Gwinnett County Senior Services hosted the fifth auction at Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett. Attendees were greeted by exotic birds as they stepped into a rainforest complete with hanging vines, wild monkeys and elephants to spend "A Night in the Wild."

Nearly 250 people attended the event. All proceeds go to benefit the senior citizens of Gwinnett County, including the Meals on Wheels program.
