DULUTH - Police officials say a man found dead in a Jeep Laredo parked behind a Duluth Kohl's department store Tuesday was murdered and the case has turned into a full-fledged homicide investigation.
Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney said investigators are trying to determine the identity of the deceased man found by a Kohl's employee about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday at the store at 2050 W. Liddel Road. Moloney said investigators previously thought they had identified the man using a New Jersey driver's license found inside the Jeep. But Moloney said the ID may not be the correct identification for the man described as black and about 39 years old. "We're still trying to figure out who he is," Moloney said. "The ID we found on him appears to be bogus." Moloney said the vehicle in which the man was discovered had a Georgia license plate, and the search for the man's identity and any family has led investigators out of Gwinnett County. Whether the investigation is leading to surrounding counties or out of the state, Moloney said he was unsure. "Investigators are doing a lot of work on this, and they are treating this as a murder," Moloney said. Investigators questioned employees at the Kohls store earlier in the week and continue to look for others who may help them identify the man, Moloney said. Moloney said he does not yet know how long the man had been dead or how he died. Anyone with information about the man or the incident is asked to call the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5300.More like this story
