Prep roundup: Lewis' walk-off homer in 10th inning lifts Brookwood over Parkview 4-3

SNELLVILLE - Ryan Lewis hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th to give Brookwood a 4-3 win over Parkview on Wednesday night in Region 8-AAAAA play.

Parkview built a 2-0 lead on a solo homer by Zach Cone and an RBI hit from Brandon Jacobs and carried it into the bottom of the seventh. Brookwood (18-5, 8-1) answered in the bottom half and tied the score at 2-2 when Buddy Jones doubled in two runs with two outs.

Parkview regained the lead at 3-2 in the top of the 10th on an RBI hit from Theo Asher before Lewis, who finished 2-for-4, homered in the bottom half.

Brent Hendrick pitched four innings of relief for Brookwood in earning the win, allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts. Seth Adkins and Ronnie Freeman also helped with two hits each for Brookwood.

Bronson Gagner started for Parkview (15-8, 6-3) but took a no decision, lasting 52⁄3 innings with three strikeouts. Zack Kilday finished 3-for-5 for Parkview while Tom Richardson was 2-for-4 and Matt Foster 1-for-5.


Central 6, Grayson 5

LOGANVILLE - Joseph Parillo's RBI single in the top of the sixth proved to be the difference as Central Gwinnett nipped Grayson 6-5 on Wednesday.

Parillo finished 2-for-3 with the one RBI while Jeff Shields added two hits with a three-run homer for Central. Jordan Jackson also went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Chase Sturm picked up the win on the mound.

Grayson (15-8, 6-3) was led by Chandler Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Kenny Duckett also was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run while Evan Pohl added a pair of hits and a run.

Mill Creek 4, North Forsyth 2

CUMMING - Michael Romeo evened his record at 4-4 with 52⁄3 innings of solid work on Wednesday as Mill Creek beat North Forsyth 4-2 in Region 7-AAAAA. Joe Hall pitched the final 11⁄3 innings for the save.

Vinny Tornillo sparked the offense for Mill Creek (12-11, 9-4) with a double and two runs while Greg Brody was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Jeremy Bolian added a double and Denver Stovall doubled and scored for the Hawks.

South Forsyth 4, Collins Hill 3

CUMMING - South Forsyth trailed Collins Hill 3-0 after four innings but rallied to down the Eagles 4-3 in Region 7-AAAAA play on Wednesday night.

Daniel Warzon led Collins Hill's offense, going 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Michael Young added a 2-for-4 for day with two runs while Michael Adams was 2-for-3 with a run. Collins Hill dropped to 13-10 overall and 5-8 in the region.

Shiloh 8, Berkmar 7

SNELLVILLE - Eddie Mathis singled in a run in the bottom of the sixth and Alex Mahncke provided three strong innings of relief as Shiloh edged Berkmar 8-7 on Wednesday.

Mahncke allowed just one hit with five strikeouts and no earned runs as he picked up the win to improve to 1-3. Sam Kauffman led the offense with a two-run homer for Shiloh (10-13, 3-6), while Drew Freeman added two hits and two RBIs and Josh Carr helped with three hits and two runs.

Jarrett Rivera led Berkmar (8-14, 1-7) with two hits and three RBIs while Kyle Cyprysiak had two doubles and two RBIs. Adam Bates was also 3-for-3 while Cory Pitts finished 2-for-3.

Forsyth Central 5, Duluth 2

DULUTH - Forsyth Central topped Duluth 5-2 Wednesday night in Region 7-AAAAA play.

Luke Jordan was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run for Duluth (4-19, 1-12) and also took the loss on the mound. Reid Merwin finished 1-for-3 with an RBI while Andrew McCrary was 1-for-3 with a run.

Norcross at Peachtree Ridge rescheduled

SUWANEE - With just one umpire showing up, the Norcross-Peachtree Ridge game on Wednesday was postponed and rescheduled for tonight at 6 p.m. at Peachtree Ridge.

Dacula 8, Eastside 6

COVINGTON - Travis Blackburn belted two home runs and drove in three runs to lead Dacula to an 8-6 win over Eastside on Wednesday in Region 8-AAAA.

James Martone went 2-for-4 with a solo homer for Dacula (17-7, 15-7) while Isaiah Rowe was 2-for-4. Kyle White added two hits in three at-bats while Jake Kenny had a hit and two RBIs.

On the mound, Zach Breaux ran his record to 5-0 with four innings of work, allowing four runs with three strikeouts while Reese Pope pitched the final three innings for his sixth save.


GAC 4, Armuchee 1

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian opened up the Class AA state playoffs on Wednesday with a 4-1 win over Armuchee. GAC will play at Marion County next Wednesday in the second round.

Christy Couch won at No. 2 singles for the Spartans (12-1) while Rachel Gray took the No. 3 singles match. Caroline Greenwood and Abbey Witwer teamed for a win at No. 1 doubles while the pair of Christie Conley and Brooke Lewis won the No. 2 doubles match.


Peachtree Ridge 3, Chattahoochee 2

SUWANEE - Peachtree Ridge picked up wins from Tyler Droll at No. 1 singles and Matt Howard at No. 3 singles as the Lions beat Chattahoochee 3-2 on Wednesday in the first round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.

Also winning for the Lions was Steven Menhorn and Jordan Kukler at No. 2 doubles. Peachtree Ridge will host Kennesaw Mountain next Wednesday in the second round.
