BUFORD - An overturned tractor-trailer closed roads for a number of hours Tuesday when the truck wrecked at the corner of Hamilton Mill and South Puckett roads, spilling flammable liquids.
Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Lt. Thomas Rutledge said the truck was carrying a full load of flammable paints and solvents when the driver ran off the road at 2:45 a.m.
The truck overturned after hitting a power pole and a parked vehicle, spilling the liquids and leaking a small amount of diesel from the truck's fuel tank.
Rutledge said most of the liquids leaked appeared to be paint. He said four houses near the spill were evacuated, but the truck driver nor anyone else was injured.
Jackson EMC responded to repair the pole that was snapped in half and clean up crews responded to clear the spill, Rutledge said.
Hamilton Mill Road between Ridge and Camp Branch roads was closed for nearly 11 hours. Rutledge said firefighters left the scene at 12:53 p.m. while police reopened the road at 1:55 p.m. after redirecting traffic for much of the day.
Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney said a report nor specifics about the early morning accident or the driver of the truck were not available as of press time Tuesday.
