Ellis Earl "Cliff" Clifton, 80, of 1729 Hatton Ford Rd., Hartwell, Ga., died April 21, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Jo Overstreet Clifton, his sister Lois and husband Lyn Wood of Smyrna, Ga., four children, Marcia Finucane of Lexington, KY., Andrea Acker of Dacula, Ga., Mark and wife Kim Clifton of Ashton, Md., David Clifton of Dunedin, Fla., eight grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson. Ellis grew up in Coffee County, Ga., and went into the US Navy at age 17 where he served on the USS Antietam in the South Pacific, being discharged in 1946. He graduated from UGA in 1950 in Journalism where he was editor of The Red and Black, the college newspaper. He worked for several newspapers, The Atlanta Journal, Tampa Tribune, and St. Petersburg Times before going into law enforcement. In law enforcement, he rose to the rank of Captain in the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office. Several of his experiences are chronicled in Ace Atkins's 2006 novel, "White Shadow". He later became director of security and safety at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta, Ga. where he retired in 1991. He subsequently moved to Hartwell, Ga. where he spent his last few years enjoying his garden, fruit trees and fishing. A memorial service will be Friday, April 27, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, 900 Benson St., Hartwell, Ga., 30643. Reception will be held following the service. The family is at the home. Memorial may be made to the building fund of Faith Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers St., Anderson, SC, 29621. Infant Kaylie Elizabeth Goddard died April 21st, 2007 at Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta. She had been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy for six months. She was born April 20th, 2006 in Gwinnett County, a daughter to Stephen Goddard and Shannon Adair. Also surviving is a sister, Regan Ashley Goddard. Andy A. Haney, age 29, died Saturday, April 21, 2007 in Nashville, TN. He collapsed after finishing an eleven mile marathon and was unable to be revived. He was born at DeKalb General Hospital on January 18, 1978 and was raised in Lawrenceville, GA. He leaves behind his Parents: Billie and Mary Campbell Haney of Lawrenceville, GA; Maternal Grandfather: Louis Campbell of Stone Mountain, GA; Sister & Brother-in-law: Sharon and Jason Golden of Suwanee, GA; Brother & Sister-in-law: Brad and Farrah Haney of Lawrenceville, GA; Four Nieces: Abby and Caroline Golden of Suwanee, GA, Ansley and Briley Haney of Lawrenceville, GA. Andy also leaves behind his many friends who loved him, including a special friend, Alicon Lee of Nashville, TN. After graduating from Central Gwinnett High School in 1996, Andy joined the military and completed his Basic Training at Ford Leonard Wood, Missouri. He then graduated from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA as an Arabic Translator. He completed his Air Borne Training in Fort Benning, GA. He graduated from the Medical Specialist Course at Fort Sam Houston, TX and the Special Forces Qualification Course at Fort Bragg, NC. Upon graduation from the Special Forces Medical Sergeants Course, Andy was assigned to 1st Battalion 5th Special Forces group and was based in Fort Campbell, KY. He served 2 tours of duty in Iraq with Operational Detachment Alpha 533. Andy received many military awards. Among them: Army Commendation Medal - 3 Oak Leaf Clusters with V Device, twice received the Army Achievement Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, twice received Army Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 2, NATO Medal, Army Service Ribbon, twice received Overseas Service Bar, Combat Medical Badge, and Parachutist Badge. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Special Forces Reserve Unit in AL. His rank was Sergeant 1st Class E7. He was attending Nashville State Technical Community College-Tennessee Technological University. Andy was planning to test in the upcoming week to become a member of the City of Nashville, TN Fire Department. Andy had many friends and always brought a sense of humor to any situation. He lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed traveling, was an avid runner and was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed. A Celebration Service of Andy's Life will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at 1:00 o'clock at the First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville with Dr. Lamar Holley and Rev. William C.
