Ira Johnie Patterson of Dacula, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2007. He was born March 3, 1929 to a cotton farm family in the valley of Elfrida, Arizona. He was 78. His father was I. J. Patterson, his mother, Willie Meda Rundell Patterson. They were charter members of the Church of God. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Pankey Patterson. He has two children, Sherylen and Gregory; two grandchildren, Kimberly, who is awaiting acceptance into Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing, and Jason, a student at Gainesville University. He had four brothers, David of Apache Junction, AZ, Nathan, who passed away due to a secondary military plane crash, Samuel, who died in infancy and Melvin of Mechanicsville, VA. He has one sister, Charlotte Patterson Nicely of Memphis, TN; 10 nieces and nephews and 29 great nieces and nephews. He had many career experiences including, crop dusting in Tucson, AZ, overhauling cars and planes, Health Inspector of Cochise County, building 17 houses and 2 churches, remodeling houses, and remodeling hotels across the United States. He also received his elementary teachers certificate from ASU and taught sixth and seventh grade advanced math and science for seven years. He taught Sunday School for many years and enjoyed challenging his students to think not just accept what was in the lesson or told to them. He sang in Robert's choir in Doraville for years. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Lawrenceville Church of God at 11:00a.m. with Rev. John Colbaugh officiating. Bobby Leon Bentley of Loganville, formerly of Stone Mountain, died April 16, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Crowe Bentley; daughter and son in law, Brenda and Travis Pruitt, Buford; son and daughter in law, Bruce and Donna Bentley, Loganville; brothers, Claude and Carol Bentley, Conyers, Dean and Jo Bentley, Stockbridge; sister in law, Shirley Bentley, Stone Mountain; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Bentley was Past Master of Stone Mountain Lodge #449 and Grayson Lodge #549 and received his 50 year pin. He was a current member of Dawson Lodge #68 in Social Circle, and Member of Stone Mountain Eastern Star #205. He was a beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather. Hiram Woodward Lanford, age 91 of Monroe, GA died April 17, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Maybelle Lanford; daughter, Linda Cox; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Nancy Lanford; 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Mr. Lanford was retired from General Motors Parts Division in 1976. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, and a long time resident of Gwinnett County. Dr. Thomas William Parkinson, MB, BS, FACA died April 14th at Piedmont Medical Center. A celebration of his life will be announced later. He was born November 22, 1921 in Yorkshire, England, the only of Zoe Amelia and Arthur Sheard Parkinson. He moved to Rock Hill in 1964 to become the first anesthesiologist in York County. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Joan; three children, Ann Ryan and husband, Michael of Winston Salem, NC, Dr. John Parkinson and wife, Vicki of Wilmington, NC and Margaret Cook and husband, Charles of Suwanee, GA; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves cousins in England and many wonderful friends.
