LAWRENCEVILLE - An automobile collision in Lawrenceville late Friday afternoon sent a motorcyclist to Gwinnett Medical Center in serious condition.
As of Saturday afternoon, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney said he did not have any new information on the status of the motorcyclist.
A preliminary investigation by police indicated the motorcyclist was struck by a Ford Explorer that was attempting to make a left turn onto Duluth Highway, a Gwinnett police press release said.
The Explorer was traveling on McKendree Church Road and had stopped at the intersection with Duluth Highway.
There is a stop sign at that intersection, but only for vehicles traveling on McKendree Church Road. There is no stop sign for vehicles traveling on Duluth Highway.
The Ford Explorer was waiting for traffic to clear before making a left turn.
When the Ford Explorer did attempt to make a left turn, it struck the motorcyclist, a 29-year-old man from Atlanta.
The identity of the motorcyclist is known by police but is being withheld until his family is notified.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 45-year-old woman from Lawrenceville, did not require medical attention.
No charges have been filed and fault has yet to be determined, Moloney indicated.
