Police charge man with fatal stabbing

NORCROSS - Police have arrested a 24-year-old Conyers man in connection with last weekend's fatal stabbing at the Stanford Village Apartments.

Verlon A. McPherson was charged with murder in the stabbing of Demitrius Oscar Gomez in the parking lot of the complex.

The Rockdale Sheriff's Department made the arrest Friday morning, said Norcross Police Chief Dallas Stidd.

Police still do not have a motive for the crime. Gomez was stabbed after an altercation last weekend in the complex off Beaver Ruin Road.

"We're still trying to piece it all together. We know that they were involved in some kind of argument, but we don't know exactly what it was about," Stidd said.

McPherson drives a green Infinity that witnesses described leaving the scene.

Gomez was stabbed twice with a knife in the groin and chest, the warrant said.
