Prep roundup: Grayson's Hill shuts down Central

LAWRENCEVILLE - Matt Hill (4-0) pitched five innings, giving up no hits, to help the Rams beat Central 9-1 on Monday.

Josh Halford was 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, four RBIs and three runs, Evan Pohl was 2-for-2 and Dylan Swords was 2-for-4 with a run. Grayson is now 10-6 overall and 2-1 in region.

Berkmar 8, Shiloh 7

LILBURN - Berkmar overcame a 7-3 deficit to pick up its first region win of the year on Monday in a 8-7 victory over Shiloh.

Matt Miller and Jarrett Rivera each had two hits and two RBIs for the Patriots, who are now 8-8 overall and 1-1 in Region 8-AAAAA.

Kyle Cyprysiak got the win in relief for Berkmar, pitching 22⁄3 innings of hitless relief.

Forsyth Central 4,

Collins Hill 1

SUWANEE - Nick Squeglia pitched six innings, gave up four hits, three runs and struck out four but Collins Hill fell to Forsyth Central 4-1 on Monday.

Chris McGowan was 2-for-2 with a walk while Derrick Johnson was 1-for-1 with a run for Collins Hill.

The Eagles are now 10-7 overall and 10-7 in region.

Peachtree Ridge 4, Duluth 0

SUWANEE - Matt Creel pitched a complete game, giving up four hits and striking out four to help Peachtree Ridge defeat Duluth 4-0 on Monday.

Chris Hallum was 1-for-2 with a double, Nate Chong was 1-for-2 with a run while Aaron Schmitz was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Luke Jordan pitched a complete game and gave up one earned run and struck out 12 for Duluth.

Peachtree Ridge is now 8-9 overall and 3-4 in region, Duluth is 3-14 overall and 0-7 in region.

North 20, South Forsyth 3

CUMMING - Mitch Rider was 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double and seven RBIs to help North Gwinnett cruise past South Forsyth 20-3 in five innings on Monday.

Travis Echols was 3-for-3 with a grand slam, Ronnie Stewart was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Doug Mullins was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Josh Blum (5-0) registered the win after giving up five hits, three runs and one earned run in five innings. North is now 14-2 overall and 6-1 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Mill Creek 16, Norcross 10

NORCROSS - Kirklan Moore went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, a double and three runs to help Mill Creek top Norcross 16-10 on Monday.

Denver Stovall was 2-for-5 with three RBIs while Jeremy Bolian was 2-4 with two runs. Matt Tunnell was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs while Greg Brody was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs for Mill Creek.

Kevin Maceri (1-0) registered the win, and Mill Creek boosts its record to 8-9 overall and 5-2 in region.

Dacula 16, Jackson County 1

JEFFERSON - James Martone (6-1) pitched three innings, giving up two hits and one run to help the Falcons beat Jackson County 16-1 on Monday.

Offensively Blair Frost was 1-for-2 with a home run, Wesley Lawrence was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Matt Knudsen was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, Travis Blackburn was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Chad Burleson was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Dacula is now 13-4 overall and 11-4 in Region 8-AAAA.

Killian Hill 23, King's Way 9

DOUGLASVILLE - Aaron Parks (7-0) pitched six innings, giving up nine hits, five earned runs, two walks and struck out six to help Killian Hill defeat King's Way 23-9 on Monday.

Kyle Bailey was 5-for-6 with five singles and five RBIs, Austen McCoy was 4-for-5 with four RBIs and a two-run home run, Steven Sokohl was 3-for-6 with a double and three RBIs while Jeffrey Lanier was 3-for-4.

Killian Hill is now 10-0 overall and 5-0 in region.


Dacula 3, Winder-Barrow 2

DACULA - Zach Crowe won at No. 3 singles to help Dacula beat Winder-Barrow 3-2 on Monday.

Brandon Tucker and Zach Nelson won at No. 1 doubles while Ryan Meyer and Tyler Germaine won at No. 2 doubles for Dacula.

The Falcons are now 12-4 overall and 10-1 in Region 8-AAAA.

Providence 5, South 1

SNELLVILLE - The Providence boys beat the Comets 5-1 at Summit Chase on Monday.

Elias Christ and Drew Meyers each won their singles matches while Carter Rice and Aaron Chewning won at No. 1 doubles.

Blake Norman and Ross Cooper won No. 2 doubles while David Diggs and James Willis won at No. 3 doubles. Providence boosts its record to 7-8 overall.


Providence 7, South 0

SNELLVILLE - Heather Heusel, Amanda Jackson and Liz Christ each won at singles to help Providence beat South Gwinnett 7-0 at Summit Chase on Monday.

In doubles Meghan Milks and Emma Auman won No. 1, Lucy Elliott and Julie Ferris won No. 2, Rachel Swindall and Rebecca Smith won No. 3 while Rebecca Swindall and Taylor Rogers won No. 4 each in doubles.

Providence is now 15-0.


Parkview wins own tourney

LILBURN - The Parkview boys soccer team continued playing well this past weekend with a victory in its own Southeastern Soccer Challenge.

The Panthers (15-2) defeated Hendersonville (Tenn.) 2-1 before defeating Oak Mountain (Ala.) 4-1.

SNELLVILLE - Zach Denson scored two goals and James Romaniw scored the game-winner in overtime as Peachtree Ridge defeated Shiloh 3-2 late Saturday night. Bayan Vojdani and Greg Johnson added assists for the Lions (10-5).


Dacula 3, Meadowcreek 0

NORCROSS - Dacula shut out Meadowcreek 3-0 on Monday afternoon to improve its record to 10-4.

Paige Placido, Sasha Alonzo and Bryna Lamb each scored a goal while Elizabeth Mateo had an assist for Dacula.


Killian Hill 16, People's 9

LILBURN - Anna Niarchos had three hits and two RBIs to help lead Killian Hill 16-9 over People's on Monday afternoon.

Rachel Niarchos (4-1) registered the win and gave up six hits and three earned runs. Meghan Lewis and Olivia Peralta each had two hits and a double while Allyson Trine had two hits, a triple and an RBI for Killian Hill.


GAC rolls past Pace

DULUTH - Patrick Howard shot a 38 and C.J. Williams shot a 39 to lead GAC past Pace 161 to 166 on Monday at Berkeley Hills.

David Deweese shot a 40 for the Spartans.

Hebron last in tourney

SHARPSBURG - Hebron finished third at the golf tournament played at Cannongate in Sharpsburg on Monday.

Michael Owens shot a low of 44 for Hebron as the Lions totaled 216. Landmark Christian won the tournament with a total of 164 while Eagle's Landing came in second with 166.


Meadowcreek athletes post top finishes

MOBILE, Ala. - Led by DaRonte Smith and Brittany Hall, the Meadowcreek track and field team performed well this past weekend at the Mobile Challenge of Champions.

Smith won the open division gold medal with a triple jump of 42 feet, 8 inches, earning a berth in the Elite Division against some of the nation's top jumpers.

He finished 11th in the Elite competition.

Hall repeated as the Elite Division 800-meter champion with a time of 2 minutes, 10.83 seconds, her fastest outdoor time this season.

Other top Mustangs were: Cyhl Quarles (second in 100, fourth in 200), Nicholas Cochran (fifth in 100), Lloyd Collins (top eight in 400) and Roberto Rojas (top 15 in 800 and 1,600).

Norcross relay

sets school record

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Norcross boys' 800-meter relay team set a new school record and placed seventh out of 56 teams at this past weekend's Florida Relays.

The foursome of Darryl Marlow, Antonio Logan, Lance Hutton and Kendall Parks ran a time of 1 minute, 29.49 seconds. Parks also had a personal-best time of 15.26 in the 110 hurdles to place 15th of 56 runners.
