WINDER - Barrow County residents might have a new cultural arts center and exhibit/banquet hall in a few years.
Barrow County Commissioners are expected to vote whether to enter an intragovernmental agreement with the Board of Education to construct the facility.
If approved, the county will contribute $3 million with the school board contributing $1.5 million, both from the one-cent sales tax. If approved, it will be constructed at the intersection of Ga. highways 316 and 53. The county bought 275 acres there in June 2006 for the purpose of developing an industrial center. The county took out a 20-year, $15 million bond to pay $11 million for the land and run infrastructure.
The facility would be available for meetings, exhibits, recreation, plays, concerts, performances and graduations.
