SNELLVILLE - A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed Thursday evening when his motorcycle crashed into the back of a car on Oak Road near Hewatt Road in Snellville.
A 2006 BMW 325I was traveling eastbound in front of Beau D. Horner's 1985 Yamaha XV700 motorcycle at 9:30 p.m. when the driver slowed to turn into a private drive off Oak Road, police said. The Yamaha slammed into the back of the car, and Horner was thrown from the bike, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the BMW, 26-year-old Jorge Novoa-Araneda, of Sugar Hill, was not injured.
Investigators were still trying to determine why the motorcycle rear-ended the BMW. The pavement was dry and weather was cloudy, Moloney said. The speed limit on that two-lane portion of Oak Road is 45 mph.
Moloney confirmed that Horner was wearing a motorcycle helmet.
