LAWRENCEVILE - A 32-year-old Duluth man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly stabbed two men at a restaurant and then hijacked a vehicle at a nearby apartment complex.
Police said Juan Jose Martel-Linares, a homeless man living in Duluth, got into a dispute with three men at El Alto restaurant at 4025 Satellite Blvd. around 7:20 p.m. He was kicked out of the restaurant, but returned a few minutes later armed with a knife. Martel-Linares attacked the three men he had been arguing with, injuring two of them, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department. He then walked to Gwinnett Crossing Apartments and carjacked a man at knifepoint, according to police. As Martel-Linares was attempting to drive out of the apartment complex, he struck seven other vehicles and eventually disabled the car he had stolen, Moloney said. Officers arrived at the apartment complex in time to arrest Martel-Linares on three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and one count of hijacking of a motor vehicle. Martel-Linares is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center. A misdemeanor charge is also pending against him for providing a false name and birth date to police. The two men who were stabbed, 21-year-old Ernesto Baronika and 23-year-old Sergio Cruz, both of Duluth, were hospitalized in fair condition and stable condition respectively. The man whose car was stolen was not injured, Moloney said.More like this story
