Winder to vote on liquor ordinance today

WINDER - Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today in Winder as voters decide whether to approve Sunday liquor sales.

If passed, the liquor-by-the-drink ordinance would allow restaurants to serve alcohol on Sundays.

Deputy City Clerk Sabrina Wall said the City Council decided to put the measure to a vote after local restaurant owners petitioned the council.

Wall said as of Friday afternoon, 19 people had voted early or absentee.

If it is approved, Wall said it could be November before alcohol could actually be sold on Sundays. The City Council must first regulate sales times and decide who exactly can sell liquor by the drink.

The election will be held at the Winder Community Center.
