LITHONIA, Ga. (AP) - Police have arrested two people in the shooting death of a church deacon.
Shabuoy Pitchford, 17, and Ricky Oliver, 21, were charged with murder Thursday in the death of Ricky Green, DeKalb County Police officer Herschel Grangent said. A family member found Green shot to death in his home Wednesday. The suspects live in the same neighborhood as Green and are believed to have also burglarized Green's house two weeks ago, Grangent said. ''We received information that they had perpetrated the burglary on Sept. 2,'' he said. ''While we were on the scene of the murder, we were able to detain them from the scene and get enough information from them.'' Police executed a search warrant and found items belonging to Green in the home of the one of the suspects, Grangent said. Green may have been killed during the second burglary when he surprised the burglars or was home when they broke in, Grangent said. Pitchford and Oliver may also have been involved in other burglaries in the area. Green was a deacon at the Bethlehem Church of God Holiness in Atlanta.More like this story
