Man dressed as woman robs bank
NORCROSS - A cross-dressing bank robber on Saturday targeted the Wachovia at 6155 Buford Highway.
The suspect reportedly approached a teller and claimed he was unable to find his identification. He then handed her a handwritten note stating his intention to rob the bank, according to a police report.
After the woman handed him an unspecified amount of cash, the suspect told her she had given him enough money and left. The robber was described as a black man with a dark complexion, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 150 to 160 pounds. He was dressed as a woman wearing a bronze-colored wig, a pink scarf around his neck, a brown beaded bracelet and carrying a brown purse, the police report stated.
Man hit over head with glass bottle
LAWRENCEVILLE - A 37-year-old man was hit over the head with a glass bottle during a confrontation Thursday at a house on Gatewood Drive in Lawrenceville.
The victim told police he was arguing with Peter Watts, 41, at 6:30 p.m. when Watts became enraged. Watts had reportedly been drinking, and when he drinks he is "unreasonable and looking for a fight," the victim claimed.
Watts allegedly tried several times to provoke the victim into a physical fight, but the man kept walking away. Watts then grabbed a 20-ounce glass bottle and struck the victim over the head three times, causing two large lumps and a small laceration.
Watts was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and giving a false name to a law enforcement officer.
Motorist gets into altercation with police
DULUTH - A Carrollton man allegedly fought with police after almost running another motorist off the road last week in Duluth.
The victim noticed a maroon Honda Accord getting closer and closer to the rear of her vehicle Sept. 3 while driving down Breckenridge Boulevard. The Accord then pulled alongside the victim and swerved toward her vehicle in an apparent attempt to strike it, according to a police report. The suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Brent Henderson, also allegedly swerved toward several construction workers on the side of Breckenridge Road.
Police caught up with Henderson at Steve Reynolds Boulevard near Club Drive. He reportedly fought with officers and tried to climb into the driver's seat of a patrol car. Police had to use a Taser stun gun to subdue and arrest him.
When contacted by phone, Henderson's mother told officers that her son used methamphetamine and he had gotten out of a drug rehabilitation program 10 days ago. Henderson was charged with aggravated assault, theft by taking a motor vehicle and obstructing law enforcement.
Robbery attempt thwarted
LAWRENCEVILLE - An unidentified man on Saturday tried to rob an armored truck employee at Publix at 4850 Sugarloaf Parkway.
The employee told police he noticed a man hiding behind a stone pillar in front of the store as he was unloading the automated teller machine. The suspect confronted the employee as he approached the truck and attempted to take the money, according to a police report.
The employee threw the bag of money into the truck and slammed the door shut. He then punched the suspect in the face and drew his gun, the police report stated. The thwarted thief ran to a black car and drove out of the parking lot. He was described as a black man wearing dark clothes with a dark jacket over his hand. The suspect reportedly held a stick underneath the jacket to make it appear as though he was carrying a gun.
