Mill Creek places second at Collins Hill tourney

SUWANEE - Mill Creek finished 5-1 at the Collins Hill Classic on Saturday to take second place.

The Hawks (16-2) defeated Sandy Creek (25-17, 23-25, 17-15) Central Gwinnett (25-19, 25-11), Dacula (25-22, 25-19), McIntosh (25-20, 18-25, 15-11) and lost to Starr's Mill (21-25, 18-25).

Emily Clayton recorded 77 digs, Olivia Day had 25 kills and five aces, Kelley Samples had 25 kills and Ashley Baughan had 68 assists.


GAC goes 3-1 at Holy Innocents'

ATLANTA - Greater Atlanta Christian experienced its first loss of the season before coming back to win three matches on Saturday at Holy Innocents'.

GAC (15-1) lost to Lovett 15-25, 25-22, 23-25 and then came back to beat Holy Innocents' (25-18, 25-22), Savannah Country Day (18-25, 25-19, 25-20) and Darlington (25-16, 25-14) later in the day.

D'Nay Daniels led the Spartans with 30 kills, 30 digs and eight blocks. Jennifer Godleski had nine kills and 24 digs, Caroline Germany had eight kills and 17 digs and Alex Shelton had 35 assists.

Wesleyan goes 5-1 at tournament

ATLANTA - Wesleyan won its first five matches of the day at Holy Innocents' before losing to Lovett in the final game 23-25, 25-21, 15-25.

The Wolves defeated Savannah Country Day (25-27, 25-21, 25-22), Landmark Christian (25-22, 25-14), Lakeview Academy (25-16, 25-14), Walker (25-20, 25-21) and Eagles Landing (25-22, 25-13).

Rachel Galloway had 26 and 21 digs on the day. Caiti Troher had 89 assists, eight aces and 33 digs, Katie Brown had 19 kills and 15 digs and Anne Marie Armstrong had 34 kills.


Mill Creek places second in gold pool

COLUMBUS - Mill Creek finished second in the gold pool at the Shaw Invitational on Saturday.

The Hawks (14-4) defeated Hardaway 4-3 with a Maggie Davis game-winning double. Davis was 2-for-3 on the day with two RBIs. Bethany Ullrich was 1-for-3 with a run, stolen base and two RBIs.

Katy Hackett was the winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts and no earned runs.

Also on Saturday, Mill Creek lost to Greater Atlanta Christian 1-0 despite Ullrich going 3-for-4. The Hawks also fell to Cherokee 1-0 as Amberlie Saxton had two of Mill Creek's seven hits.

GAC loses two at tourney

COLUMBUS - Greater Atlanta Christian (6-7) defeated Mill Creek, but lost to Cherokee and Hardaway on Saturday at the Shaw Invitational.

Chaney Means got the Spartans' only hit in a 1-0 win over Mill Creek. Kinse Davis scored the game-winning run in the ninth inning. Jessica Coan picked up the win, going nine innings and allowed three hits and struck out 14.

Against Cherokee, GAC lost 2-1. Reagan Page and Madelline Baker went 2-for-3 and Millie Mitchell was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Page drove GAC's only run in the 3-1 loss to Hardaway. Mitchell was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Brookwood loses two

SUWANEE - Brookwood moved to 10-8 on the season with two losses to Parkview on Saturday.

The Broncos lost the first match 21-25, 18-25 and the second one 24-26, 19-25.


Parkview girls win Carrollton Invitational

CARROLLTON - The Parkview girls cross country team upset defending state champions Collins Hill on Saturday at the Carollton Invitational.

Brookwood finished fourth and was led by freshman Carly Egan who ran a 19:55. Collins Hill's Jackie Drouin was second.
