BUFORD - A fight involving students from North Gwinnett High School on Aug. 22 resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old student. Jeffrey K. Hefner, of 5266 Ashbury Lane, Buford, is charged with terroristic threats and acts and possession of a weapon within a school safety zone for allegedly wrapping his arm around a 16-year-old student's neck and threatening to kill him with a knife. The fight, which occurred in a parking lot within 1,000 feet of school property just after dismissal, involved a number of students, said Sloan Roach, spokesperson for Gwinnett County Schools. School administrators responded to the fight, and the school resource officer arrested Hefner. Ten of the students involved were taken to a panel for disciplinary action, but Roach could not disclose the nature of the consequences. "Details on that action is not something I can release, as it is protected student information," Roach wrote in an e-mail. Roach said a disciplinary panel occurs within 10 days of the incident in question. Students are not permitted to attend school or participate in school activities while a panel is pending.More like this story
