Robbery suspect charged

with possession of marijuana

•SNELLVILLE - A man arrested on an armed robbery warrant by another agency was found to also have illegal drugs in his possession, according to reports.

Joseph R. Barnett, 24, of 2654 Calumet Farm Lane, was arrested at his home Aug. 30 for warrants that include the alleged armed robbery, but a search of the residence by parole officers led to the discovery of a quantity of marijuana.

He is charged in Gwinnett County with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, the report said.

He was later transported to the Gwinnett County Jail for the additional warrants and the drug charge.

Man charged with firing gun

•DACULA - A man was arrested at the 2300 block of Evonshire Way for allegedly discharging a firearm while walking through a neighborhood.

The suspect, Hugh Dalton of 3023 Braselton Highway, was arrested around 5:30 a.m., Tuesday.

Witnesses said Dalton was walking though the neighborhood wearing a pair of pajama pants with no shirt, carrying a knife in one hand and a pistol in the other.

In addition to firing the pistol, Dalton reportedly screamed for the police, running up to houses and banging on the door.

No one was hurt in the incident.

When police arrived, officers instructed Dalton to drop his weapons and lie down on the ground, which he did.

He was taken into custody and is charged with discharging his weapon, the report stated.

After a medical evaluation by EMS, Dalton, a diabetes sufferer, was transported to the county jail, where he was released to an on-duty deputy, the report said.
