After a short lull following August's primary runoff, we'll be back to the swing of election season soon.
This week, the United Ebony Society of Gwinnett County will again begin its series of "Meet the Candidates" forums. The first will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville. Another forum is scheduled for Sept. 28. "We were hoping that you could get the word out on these forums so that we could get more of the Gwinnett County community involved," society president Robbie Susan Moore said in an e-mail. The forum is open to all the candidates in the Nov. 7 general election. It will be moderated by four panelists who will ask questions. If time permits, the audience will also be allowed to ask questions. Tax commissioner names new leaders Gwinnett's tax commissioner has appointed a new director for the motor vehicles department. Anthony Buffum will replace Charles Martin, who retired on July 31 after more than 20 years in that position. Buffum previously served as the branch manager at the Lawrenceville tag office. He has been with the tax commissioner's office for eight years and has more than 30 years management experience. "I am strongly committed to our mission and dedicated to providing the highest level of customer service to each and every customer," Buffum said. Richard Steele was appointed as senior manager of the Lawrenceville branch. He was previously the manager for the Snellville tag office.
