LAWRENCEVILLE - Gov. Sonny Purdue will choose between three judges and two attorneys for Gwinnett's sixth State Court Judge.
The governor's judicial nominating committee submitted a list Thursday of five to be considered for that seat.
The nominees are:
•John Doran, Jr., a criminal law attorney in Lawrenceville
•Valeria Elbaz Head, Judge, Magistrate Court of Gwinnett County
•George F. Hutchinson, III, Judge, Magistrate Court of Gwinnett County
•Albert L. Norton, Jr., Attorney, Norcross
•Kenneth M. Sissel, Senior Judge, Magistrate Court of Gwinnett County
The nominees will go through a series of interviews with Gov. Purdue. Once chosen, the sixth judge will take office in January 2007.
Caseloads in Gwinnett have more than doubled in the past decade, prompting the need for an additional judge. According to a recent survey, the court averages 140,000 citizens per judge, nearly double the state average of 80,000 citizens per judge.
