LAWRENCEVILLE - A 20-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle Friday evening while trying to cross a street in Lawrenceville.
She later died as the result of her injuries. A preliminary investigation indicates that Adela Marie Anderson of Lawrenceville was attempting to cross Pleasant Hill Road at the intersection of Cruse Road about 6:45 p.m., said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department. She was struck by a 2003 Kia Spectra, driven by Michael L. Whitehead II, 23, of Buford. Whitehead was traveling west on Pleasant Hill at an undetermined rate of speed, and had a green light to pass through the intersection, Moloney said. Anderson is listed at fault for failure to obey a traffic control device while crossing at the crosswalk, Moloney said. She was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center where she later died. Alcohol was not suspected as a contributing factor, but Whitehead was cited for driving on a suspended license and for reckless driving. He was arrested and transported to the Gwinnett Detention Center and has since made bond. The incident is still under investigation.More like this story
