Suwanee police arrest man in convenience store robbery

SUWANEE - Suwanee police Thursday arrested 40-year-old Patrick Andrew Cheatham for allegedly robbing the BP Connect convenience store in Suwanee.

Police began looking for the suspect after receiving calls from the store's clerk and viewing surveillance video.

According to Suwanee Police, Cheatham, of Lawrenceville, took money and cigarettes from the store and fled.

A Suwanee police officer later recognized the suspect driving what police said was a 1998, dark green Ford Taurus.

The officer attempted to have Cheatham pull his car over, leading to an unsuccessful car chase by the officer.

Gwinnett Police later noticed a vehicle in a ditch off Whitehead Place and Old Peachtree Road.

A Gwinnett officer found the wrecked car with Cheatham inside.

Cheatham was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center and is in fair condition.

Police believe Cheatham may have been involved in other convenience store robberies in the area, but investigations are still continuing.
