NORCROSS - Police say the woman who died in a car crash Wednesday was driving the vehicle, and was not the passenger as previously reported.
Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department, told the Gwinnett Daily Post on Wednesday that Shelia Smith, 43, was driving the vehicle when it crashed into the center median on Interstate 85. But an eyewitness saw her daughter, Dana Smith, 21, and Shelia Smith get in the car and drive away approximately 20 minutes before the accident occurred. Dana Smith, who was killed in the crash, was in fact the driver, said the eyewitness. The accident was caused by a tire blowout, which caused Dana Smith to lose control and strike the center median, Moloney said. Both were ejected from the vehicle because they were not wearing their seat belts. Shelia Smith survived the accident, and was transported to the hospital after the accident.More like this story
