Band to perform Saturday in Winder

WINDER - Metal band Vainglory will hold an open dress rehearsal at a Winder venue Saturday.

Vainglory is preparing to play in front of 22,000 people at the Monterrey Metal Fest III in November and will be rehearsing their set Saturday night at 106 West in Winder.

The band members include guitarist/songwriter Corbin King and singer Kate French of Bethlehem, guitarist John Michael Youngblood of Buford, drummer Dan Lynch of Marietta and bassist Chris Banja of Loganville.

institute accepting nominations

WINDER - The Barrow County Chamber of Commerce announces that Leadership Barrow is accepting nominations for the class of 2007.

Leadership Barrow is designed to expose potential community leaders to the many facets of the community and enhance their leadership skills through specialized training modules.

An individual may nominate him/herself or be nominated by someone within the community.

Participants are selected from a pool of applicants after consideration of their recognized and potential leadership qualities. Criteria for selection into the program include being committed to the well-being of Barrow County, a desire to commit to participation in nonemployment-related volunteer activities, the potential for advancement to leadership positions through work or volunteer involvement and a willingness to devote the time necessary to successfully complete all requirements of the program.

Auditions held

WINDER - Open auditions will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday for the play "Class Dismissed" with roles for 16 teens of high school age and four adults.

"Class Dismissed" is a comic drama about an English teacher who is frustrated with his students' lackadaisical approach to their education and takes severe measures to hold his toughest students hostage in his classroom.

The students are an egocentric jock, the obnoxious class clown, the intellectual male, sensitive female and the flippant prom queen. The lesson they learn is not about English but about life.

"Class Dismissed" will be directed by Eaddy Mays, a professional actor and host of the WCTV-12 television show "Community Focus." The show will be produced in conjunction with 106 West performance venue with support from Winder-Barrow High School.

Group celebrates anniversary

LILBURN - Gwinnett Christian Terrace celebrated its 25th anniversary with an open house and ribbon cutting Oct. 21.

The open house featured the dedication of a new gazebo, which was presented to the residents by the Board of Directors of the Decatur Church of Christ Senior Housing Inc.

Lilburn Mayor Jack Bolton read a proclamation declaring this day to be Gwinnett Christian Terrace Appreciation Day in Lilburn.

Auditions

to be held

WINDER - The Winder-Barrow Community Theatre is announcing auditions for the December production of the Children's PLAYhouse.

Auditions will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Barrow County Leisure Services Center on Second Street in Winder. The cast will require 20 children ages 6 and up and five adults. No prepared material is required for the audition. The Christmas play will be presented Dec. 2 at 1 and 4 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Bethlehem.

Festival held

NORCROSS - Victory World Church of Norcross will be hosting a Fall Fest Family Night Out event starting at 6 p.m. on Friday.

The Family Night Out event includes jumping inflatables for kids, a youth-led service and a special youth lock-in with a trip to the Corn Maze and a concert featuring Mr. Del, formerly of Three 6 Mafia. Victory World Church is located at 5905 Brook Hollow Parkway in Norcross.
