Group to hold cookout fundraiser
LAWRENCEVILLE - The Society of Humane Friends will hold a cookout Wednesday. The group will raise money for a low cost spay/neuter clinic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held at 75 Langley Drive in the sheriff's department parking area. Plates will cost $5 each for one meat or $6 each for two meats. Suwanee seeks transportation input SUWANEE - The city of Suwanee is seeking input as it creates an Alternate Transportation Master Plan. The sidewalk, greenway and bike path system will connect Suwanee locations both within the city limits and regionally. An open house is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at North Gwinnett High School. Suwanee to show Halloween movie SUWANEE - The city of Suwanee will show a Halloween movie in Town Center Park on Friday. The Mummy will be shown at 7 p.m. with subtitles. The soundtrack will be played live. The park will host trick-or-treating from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Activities include a costume parade, a fall festival, carnival games, music and trick-or-treating. Girl Scouts pick up trash at center LAWRENCEVILLE - Girl Scout Troop 1687 participated in the Rivers Alive Cleanup 2006 at the Gwinnett Nature Center this month. The troop spent three hours cleaning up trash from the Nature Center Grounds and learning about the environment in Gwinnett County. The girls found paper cups, beer bottles, cigarette butts and Styrofoam in all shapes and sizes. They recorded the trash they found on tally sheets that were returned at the end of the day to track the amount of trash picked up. After spending an hour and a half picking up trash along Mall of Georgia Boulevard and in the brush nearby, the girls spent the remainder of their time hiking the trails and visiting the education stations set up by the Nature Center. Run for River 5K to be held Saturday DULUTH - The third annual Subaru Run for the River 5K will be held Saturday. Proceeds will benefit the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, which works to protect the river and its tributaries through monitoring and community education. The race will begin at 8 a.m. at 4830 River Green Parkway, Suite 150 in Duluth. Registration is $20 and includes a gift bag of runner necessities and a Chattahoochee River coffee table book. Details about the course, registration deadlines and post-race events can be found at www.runfortheriver.org Park entrance closed LAWRENCEVILLE - Tribble Mill Park's main entrance off New Hope Road will be temporarily closed Monday through Friday for road improvements inside the park. A temporary entrance to a portion of the park will be through its back service gate located off Ozora Church Road. During this time only the Ozora Meadows area, playground, restrooms and trails will be open. The boat ramp will be closed and equestrian traffic will be asked to park in Ozora Meadows parking areas.
