BARROW COUNTY - A 21-year-old Athens man was killed Thursday when his car collided with a tractor-trailer trying to make a U-turn on Ga. Highway 316.
Noe Jordan was traveling west on Ga. 316 when his Honda Accord ran under the cab of a tractor-trailer driven by 25-year-old Cartersville resident Harold Schneider, Georgia State Patrol Operator Cal Barton said.
Schneider, who was traveling east, was trying to make a U-turn at Wall Road, Barton said.
Jordan died in the accident, and Barton said his two passengers, Athens residents Eliud Velez Colon, 28, and Jamie Cruz Rodriguez, 33, were both transported to Athens Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
The accident occurred at
6:28 a.m. between Statham and Ga. Highway 53, Barton said. Georgia State Patrol troopers were at the scene until 11:30 a.m. or noon Thursday, and the road's westbound lanes were closed and traffic was rerouted.
Barton said charges against Schneider are pending, and the accident has been sent to the State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.
This is the third fatality on Ga. 316 in Barrow and Oconee counties this year, Barton
said, and there have been 21 injuries.
