Buford woman killed while crossing street

BUFORD - A woman who was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Buford Drive on Wednesday night was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say Deborah Mary Beausoliel, 47, of Buford, was struck by a 2002 Dodge 1500 truck at 9:26 p.m. on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Buford Drive and South Lee Street.

A witness told police that westbound traffic had a green light, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The driver of the truck, identified as Marcus William Townsend, 42, of Lawrenceville, was traveling westbound on Buford Drive, and Beausoliel was crossing at the designated crosswalk when struck, Moloney said.

Moloney said it appeared that she was crossing when the device indicated not to cross.

She was listed at fault for crossing against the traffic control device, Moloney said.

Moloney also said alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor, and no charges are pending against the driver. Police are still investigating the collision.
