LAWRENCEVILLE - Joan Glancy Memorial Hospital officially closed its doors Wednesday morning, moving the hospital's patients to the new Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth on Howell Ferry Road.
A ceremony was held to celebrate opening the new hospital, starting with a "Praying Open of the Doors" led by hospital chaplin Lynne Mouchet. "The Gwinnett Medical Center administrator welcomed everybody at 6:30 this morning. The staff walked through the doors and Gwinnett Medical Center was officially open," said Kyle Brogdon, the hospital's spokesman. Patients' family members were notified of the move and were invited to attend the event as 39 patients were moved by ambulance. Brogdon said the move went well and that patients and their families gave positive feedback about the new hospital. "We haven't encountered any hiccups during the move," Brogdon said. Registered nurses and respiratory therapists accompanied the patients in ambulances, moving the most critical patients first. Drills were performed last week to ensure the patients' safety during the move.More like this story
