LAWRENCEVILLE - A Meadowcreek High School teacher has resigned after she was arrested on a felony charge of sexual assault against a person in custody, police said.
Gwinnett police arrested Angela Coffey, 33, of Lilburn on Friday in connection with a sexual assault against a 17-year-old boy, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, the Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman.
Coffey was released Saturday on a $16,600 bond, according to the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department Web site.
Moloney said he could not give any details about the nature of the alleged assault but said it took place between March and August.
Moloney said he does not know where it took place.
Coffey resigned from the school system Monday, said Jorge Quintana, a school district spokesman. The school system has notified the Professional Standards Commission about her arrest.
Coffey began work at Meadowcreek High School in August 2004, where she taught English to speakers of other languages, Quintana said. From 2001 to 2003, she worked at Sweetwater Middle School as a social studies teacher, he said.
Quintana declined comment on Coffey's arrest.
