Prep roundup: Wesleyan advances to Area 4-AA finals

DECATUR - The two-time defending state champion Wesleyan volleyball team advanced to the Area 4-AA finals on Tuesday with a 25-21, 25-14 win over Decatur.

Betsy Smith had 11 kills, Anne Marie Armstrong had eight kills and five digs, Katie Brown added five kills and Caiti Troyer dished out 25 assists for the Wolves, who are now 41-16 on the season.

The area championship will be at Wesleyan on Thursday at 7 p.m.

GAC finishes third in area

DECATUR - Greater Atlanta Christian defeated Providence Christian, but then dropped a close match with Decatur to finish third in the Area 4-AA volleyball tournament on Tuesday.

The Spartans, who will be making their third straight appearance at the state tournament later this month, beat Providence 25-13, 25-18 before getting knocked out by Decatur, 25-20, 22-25,


D'Nay Daniels led GAC with 18 kills and 27 digs and was named to the all-tournament team. Ashley Agin collected 15 kills while setter Alex Shelton had 19 digs and 41 assists.

The Spartans are 37-9 heading into the Oct. 28 state tournament at Holy Innocents'.
