Gwinnett students to represent county in competition

Four Gwinnett County students have been selected to represent the county in the state School Bus Safety Poster Contest.

Leena Park, 7, of Dr. M.H. Mason Jr. Elementary School won for the grades K-2 division. Lily Li, 10, of Arcado Elementary won for the grades 3-5 division. Vreonna Strong-Belin, 12, of Shiloh Middle School won for the grades 6-8 division. Chelse Merriweather, 7, of Peachtree Elementary School won for the special education division.

The Georgia Department of Education will select one winner per division, and those entries will continue to the national competition.

The artwork is used to promote National School Bus Safety Week, which starts today.

Berkmar juniors

traveling to learn

Naquira Cox and Angela Ethridge, both juniors at Berkmar High School, have been selected as delegates to the Anti-Defamation League's eighth annual Grosfeld Family National Youth Leadership Mission to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

They will join eight other students from the metro Atlanta area in the mission, where the students will analyze the lessons of the Holocaust and learn about modern-day issues of bigotry.

The Anti-Defamation League is devoted to fighting anti-Semitism and bigotry, and the organization strives to foster understanding among diverse communities.

Lawrenceville PTA seeking flea market vendors

Lawrenceville Elementary School's PTA is seeking people who would like to sell items in a fall market, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3.

Vendors can participate for $20, and all proceeds to go to the PTA.

Vendors can sell clothing, crafts and other items but cannot sell food, alcohol, tobacco or weapons. All items should be able to fit inside a parking space.

•The annual Duluth High Concert on the Diamond is at 7 p.m. Saturday. The concert is sponsored by the school's baseball team and orchestra. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
