LAWRENCEVILLE - A school bus driver involved in a Wednesday accident on Club Drive that injured two children on the bus could face a misdemeanor traffic charge, according to Gwinnett County police.
Gwendolyn Kenan, 63, of Snellville, could face a charge of failure to yield while turning left, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, Gwinnett County Police spokesman.
Gwinnett County Public Schools officials said Kenan has worked for the school system since 1996. Kenan faces a routine internal investigation that includes a drug test.
The two children on the bus who were injured were released from the Gwinnett Medical Center Wednesday, and the other seven children were examined and released.
The driver of the car, Delia Patino-Hurtado, 24, of Lawrenceville, was still at Gwinnett Medical Center Thursday, but she did not have life-threatening injuries, Moloney said. She faces a misdemeanor charge of driving without a valid driver's license.
The front seat passenger, Lorena Marcony, 21, of Lawrenceville, also remained at Gwinnett Medical Center Thursday, Moloney said. She was in serious condition Thursday but is expected to survive.
Three children who were in the back seat of the car are all expected to survive their injuries, but one child was in serious condition Thursday, Moloney said. They were taken by ambulance Wednesday to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital.
