Hubert Ellison Tucker went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2006. He was born September 17, 1909 in Royston, Georgia, the son of Guy and Bertsie Tucker. He graduated valedictorian of his class from Royston High School and later attended Oglethorpe University and graduated from The University of Georgia School of Business. He served as President of Habersham College in the early 40's. He served in the United States Army. Since 1946, he was a Deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville, where he taught Sunday School for many years and was a current member of the Walter Alford Sunday School Class. Mr. Tucker was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lawrenceville serving as President and Lieutenant Governor. He was very instrumental in bringing the first hospital to Gwinnett and served on the first hospital authority. Mr. Tucker was a charter Member of the Chamber of Commerce. Upon arriving in Lawrenceville and marrying Annette Williams, he operated Williams Drug Store for many years before returning to the school business as an area coordinator for the Manpower Development and Training program of the State Department of Education. Upon retiring from the MDT, he opened Tucker's Gift Shop on the square in Lawrenceville until retiring at age 90. He was a lifetime fan of Georgia football and served as president of the Gwinnett Bulldog Club. He attended three home games this year. Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by his mother and father, Guy and Bertsie Tucker; his brother, Kit Tucker; and sister, Louise Campbell. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Annette Williams; his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. (Carol) Hubert Tucker, Jr.; two granddaughters and their spouses, Sharon and Mike Britt, and Carol Anne and Jeff Brinkley; and two great grandchildren, Michael and Anna Britt. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville, at 11:00 A.M. with Dr. Ronny Spillers and Dr. Lamar Holley officiating, with the interment at Shadowlawn Cemetery in Lawrenceville.
