LAWRENCEVILLE - A 29-year-old Dacula woman was killed and her 3-year-old daughter seriously injured Wednesday morning in a two-car wreck in Dacula.
Vicki Carter-Booker, 49, of Norcross was driving a 1999 Mazda 626 south on Luke Edwards Road when police say she failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Luke Edwards Road and New Hope Road. The Mazda continued into the intersection, striking a 1995 GMC Safari minivan that was eastbound on New Hope Road, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department. No one in the minivan was wearing a seat belt, Moloney said. The driver of the minivan. 29-year-old Maria D. Villalobos-Avila of Dacula, was hospitalized with serious injuries at Gwinnett Medical Center. She died a short time later. The woman's 3-year-old daughter, who was partially ejected from the vehicle and suffered broken legs, was transported by helicopter to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. The girl's name was not released because of her age, Moloney said. A passenger in the GMC, 28-year-old Maria Alvarado, and Booker were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment and were expected to survive. Charges are pending against Booker, Moloney said.More like this story
