LILBURN - Officers from the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department arrested a Lilburn man, wanted on charges in Virginia and North Carolina on Monday.
Wilbur Ira Reid, 32, was arrested by the Sheriff's Department's Special Warrant Service Team on charges of possession of a weapon in Franklin County in Virginia and failure to appear in court and conspiracy to distribute cocaine in Greensboro, N.C. Stacey Bourbonnais, spokeswoman for the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department, said a deputy on the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force was notified of the outstanding warrants for Reid's arrest. "A call was received that Mr. Reid was in Lilburn living with a girlfriend," she said. She said Reid fled when officers surrounded his residence at 599 Springwood Drive and was pursued by nearby officers. Reid wrecked the vehicle into a tree and was arrested and transported to the Atlanta Pretrial Detention Center. Bourbonnais also said Reid was convicted of murder in the 1990s and served 12 years in prison. As of press time Monday, she said she was unsure of the state where Reid served his 12-year sentence.More like this story
