DULUTH - Gwinnett County police continue to investigate a deadly shooting that occurred Sunday in the parking lot of the Gwinnett Crossing Apartments in Duluth.
The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Alejandro Ponce of Duluth. Ponce was transported to the Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died from a gunshot wound. Police believe Ponce and his wife had just returned from a grocery store when the shooting occurred. His wife had taken their baby inside the apartment and Ponce was unloading groceries outside when the shooting began, according to a police report. "According to a witness, a vehicle, possibly two, pulled up to the victim and a Hispanic male got out of the vehicle and approached the victim," Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department, wrote in a press release. "When the unknown man left the area, the witness saw the victim lying on the ground."
