Creative Enterprises gives disabled adults a chance to fashion their own art

Creative Enterprises Inc. is a nonprofit organization providing vocational rehabilitation for adults with disabilities in Gwinnett County.

Our organization has created a new and exciting art program that is providing avenues for adults with disabilities to express themselves through art.

Each person enrolled in the Creative Art program is given the supplies, guidance, and most importantly, the opportunity to make their own pieces of art. Individuals without a voice are given the chance to share their thoughts every Wednesday and Thursday at Creative Enterprises.

Seven individuals placed in the recent Gwinnett County Fair for their award-winning art. An abundance of pride spread throughout the production center the day after the fair, as the individuals showed their friends and co-workers their achievement ribbons. The feeling of success and achievement touched those present and we celebrated the achievements of our friends.

In recent years, we have featured several pieces of art at our annual gala event and we have had many positive responses. So, we took our abilities to another level and brought many changes to the art at Creative Enterprises Inc. We are now focusing on a program in which individuals are able to create many different types of art to sell to the public. The types of pieces include ceramics, pottery, magnets, drawings, paintings, stepping stones, decoupage pieces, pastels, stamping and many more one of a kind pieces.

Our new upcoming project will feature greeting cards designed by the artists and packaged in our production center, located on Hi Hope Lane in Lawrenceville. Promoting the creativity and distribution of each individual's hard work provides various jobs in our production center along with an internal revenue source for our center. This is very important to the success of our organization due to the fact that most of our work is contract assembly and somewhat sporadic, depending on the demand of our partnering distributors.

The desire for work has always been apparent at Creative Enterprises; however, the amount of assembly work is slowing day by day. The art program allows individuals with disabilities the opportunity to create their own jobs as well as providing them with many avenues to distribute their work to the community.

Several Gwinnett County businesses have been gracious enough to provide store space to make our Creative Art more available to the public. Pieces can now be found at Art Glass Design and Pieces of the Past on the square and at Gunter's Hardware and Lube 3000 in Lawrenceville.

With the aspiration of supporting all disabilities through imagination and creativity, we hope to assist the artists in the success we know they are capable of achieving. Each individual is paid when his or her pieces are sold and the universal feeling of compensation is priceless. This is not only payment for hard work, but also for the imagination and vision that is expressed in every drawing, painting or ceramic piece.

In the future, we are excited to continue growing in our art program as well as in all areas of our services. The community is a vital part of our success and Creative Enterprises Inc. is sure to succeed with your help. Through our Creative Art program we will continue enriching the lives of adults with disabilities every day.

Creative Enterprises Inc. also serves as an animal shelter. We have cats and kittens available for adoption from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays at PetCo. on Riverside Parkway. The adoption fee is $50 and all animals are spayed or neutered. For more information, call Creative Enterprises Inc. at 770-962-3908.
