DULUTH - Gwinnett County fire investigators and Duluth police are continuing to investigate what led to a fire that killed a Duluth man Thursday afternoon.
A Gwinnett County deputy sheriff serving papers in the area notified the Fire Department after seeing smoke billowing from the two-story townhome on Ashford Green Drive in the Woodhaven at Chattahoochee Crossing complex.
The fire inside the home was quickly extinguished by firefighters and a search of the home led firefighters to find an unidentified adult man, dead inside the residence.
Tommy Rutledge, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Fire Department, said the blaze began inside the townhome and was contained to the residence.
He said investigators are not releasing the name of the man or the cause of the fire.
"The fire is under active investigation as an arson fire," he said.
