Though it may seem a little early, several local homeowners have already finished decorating for the holidays.
In the coming weeks, their houses will be open to visitors during area holiday home tours. In addition to offering ideas for decking the halls, the tours also serve as fundraising events for nonprofit groups.
The holiday home tour season opens Friday with the "It's a Wonderful House" tour at Chateau Elan in Braselton. The tours, which will raise money for the Gwinnett Children's Shelter, continue through Sunday.
During the tour, shuttle buses will depart from the Chateau Elan Winery and take guests to the homes in nearby neighborhoods. Each home on the tour has been professionally decorated.
On Sunday, Lilburn homeowners will host visitors as part of a fundraiser for the football team at Parkview High School.
"Typically, we have about 600 people who walk through the homes," said Carol Bruce, the chairwoman of the Lilburn Tour of Homes.
The tour features five homes, including a restored farmhouse and a house featuring a waterfall that cascades down the stone wall of a fireplace. All of the houses are located within three miles of Parkview, Bruce said.
On Nov. 30, Sugarloaf Country Club will host its annual holiday home tour. This tour raises money for four charities: Foster Children's Foundation, Gwinnett Children's Shelter, SPECTRUM Autism Support Group and the Duluth Cooperative Ministry.
"It is just going to be a wonderful tour," said Gina Connell, a chairwoman for the Sugarloaf tour.
Five houses at Sugarloaf Country Club will be open for visitors. One house, located on the 18th green, has an Old World feel and a bar area that overlooks the golf course, Connell said.
"Another house is on the golf course and has a great view," Connell said.
In Norcross, five homes in the city's historic district will be open for tours on Dec. 2. Visitors can see the houses during the day or in the evening by candlelight.
The Historic Norcross Holiday Home Tour will raise funds for the Historic Norcross Preservation Alliance.
Residents of Loganville will take part in a holiday home tour on Dec. 3. The proceeds will go to the Loganville Women's Club, which will use the money for a scholarship fund and to benefit the town, said Mary Hazlerigs. She and Janet Moore are the co-chairs of the holiday home tour committee.
"Of course, all the homes will be beautifully decorated," Hazlerigs said.
