SUGAR HILL - Residents will soon have another place to shop, sip coffee and do business. City Councilmen rezoned three properties in the 1100 block of U.S. Highway 23 for a retail/office center. The combined properties total 7.75 acres and stand between Johnson and Old Suwanee roads.
Plans show a mixed-use development of 21,400 square feet of retail space fronting U.S. 23, with 57,000 square feet of office condominiums in the rear adjacent to Chatham Road. The site plan shows a village-type layout of turn-of-the-century-designed structures centered around an existing large oak tree. Sidewalks and raised pedestrian walkways will connect gardens and greenspaces with office and retail outlets.

city structure approved
Sugar Hill will soon begin branding its entrance points. City Councilmen approved spending $9,800 apiece for four 10-by-8 brick structures. Each structure will display the city's logo with gold leaf lettering on a black background. Structures will stand at the city's limits on the north and southbound sides of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, and at the east and west sides of Ga. Highway 20. City Manager Bob Hail said Sugar Hill might not buy all the structures at one time.
