BRASELTON - Police seized $103,060 during a routine traffic stop from an out-of-state vehicle on Interstate 85 early Thursday morning.
Sgt. Michael Steffman of the Braselton Police Department stopped a man in a 2001 Acura around 1:15 a.m. for a window tint violation just north of the Ga. Highway 211 exit. Steffman searched the vehicle with the driver's consent, and found the money wrapped in vacuum-sealed bags in a hidden compartment. The driver, who held a North Carolina driver's license, said he knew nothing about the money or the hidden compartment and that the car belonged to his cousin, Steffman said. The car is registered to a woman in Virginia, Steffman said. The money and car were seized. The driver was released without being charged, but a subsequent background check of the driver showed that he has an extensive drug arrest history, Steffman said. The Drug Enforcement agency has been notified of the incident.More like this story
