Coaches name runners of the week
Dacula's Obed Pacheco and Wesleyan's Brandon Ramsey shared the boys honor while Brookwood's Carly Egan and Buford's Summer Nelson were selected for the girls award as the Gwinnett County cross country coaches announced their runners of the week on Monday.
Pacheco was runner-up at the Region 8-AAAA meet with a time of 17 minutes, 2 seconds. Ramsey was fourth at the 6-AA championships in 16:51.
Egan was runner-up in 8-AAAAA with a time of 19:03 and Nelson was third in the 6-AA meet at 19:49.
Providence teams qualify for state
The Providence girls cross country team placed second at the Region 5-A Championships this past Saturday and the boys team was third as both squads advanced to next weekend's state championships.
Mary Katherine Mills was third to lead the Stars' girls, finishing in 20 minutes, 23 seconds on the course at Our Lady of Mercy. Teammates Jordan Kelly (13th, 22:06), Mary Katherine Franklin (15th, 22:08) and Allison Preg (17th, 22:38) also were in the top 20. Sarah Sharp (21st, 23:04), Emily Diedrich (22nd, 23:06) and Beth Morris (34th, 24:29) also did well for the Stars.
Providence was led in the boys race by Eric Mills, who was 12th in 17:57, and Joey Stokan, who was 16th in 18:04. The other top boys performers were Chris Beals (20th, 18:14), Andy Koch (30th, 18:35), Collins Staley (34th, 18:52), Alex Vess (35th, 18:55) and Scott Pratt (38th, 19:16).
Lions' Inameti to sign, Graham to hold off
Peachtree Ridge will host a signing ceremony on Wednesday for senior Bassey Inameti at 2:30 p.m., but fellow senior Zach Graham won't sign on Wednesday. Inameti is signing a basketball scholarship with Tennessee Tech.
Graham has committed to Ole Miss for basketball, but Lion head coach Gerald Arnold said the 6-foot-5 senior won't sign Wednesday. Graham still has through Nov. 15 to sign in the early period is chooses to sign with the Rebels or another school.
Norcross players to sign Wednesday
Norcross seniors Jordan DeMercy, Gani Lawal and Tony Neysmith will sign basketball scholarships on Wednesday in the high school cafeteria. The ceremony will be at 4 p.m.
DeMercy is signing with Florida State, Lawal with Georgia Tech and Neysmith with Oklahoma.
South Gwinnett ceremony on Wednesday
South Gwinnett senior basketball players Antionette Howard, Alex Winchell, Emily Clarke and Mandi Dudish will sign basketball scholarships on Wednesday at the school. The ceremony is at 7:30 p.m. in the gymnasium.
Howard is headed to Florida, Winchell to Memphis, Clarke to Western Carolina and Dudish to Georgia College and State University.
