Reverend Harold T. Murphree, 89, died Monday, November 6, 2006. He was born in St. Clair County, Alabama to Solomon C. and Sadie Gibbs Murphree. Rev. Murphree was a World War II veteran having served in the U. S. Army Air Force as a flight engineer on a B17. During this time he had the honor of flying Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower over the South Pacific. The actual plane is still flying today in air shows around the country. In the early 1960's, Rev. Murphree left the business world and became a lay minister and later a full time minister until his retirement from the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. He authored a book entitled Tried and Proven about his life and experiences in the ministry. This book was a labor of love of which he was very proud. Rev. Murphree is survived by his wife, Sara (Sally) of 66 years, daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Dick Berry; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Linda Murphree and Wayne and Tess Murphree; grandchildren, Kim and Chad Brannon, Kevin Murphree, Elaine and John Hoyt and Michael Murphree; 3 great grandchildren, Dessi, Emily, and Kaitlyn; and sister, JoAnne Tidwell. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel with Rev. Winston Skinner & Rev. Danny Wilson, officiating. Burial will be at Gwinnett Memorial Park in Lawrenceville. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 7 at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel, 1031 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 770-277-4550.
