LAWRENCEVILLE - A man was found shot to death Friday night on a driveway just outside the city limits of Lawrenceville, and police are still seeking suspects in what is being called a homicide.
The victim, a 24-year-old black man whose name had not been released as of press time Friday, was pronounced dead when police arrived at 106 Caboose Court N.W., said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Witnesses told police they heard more than one shot fired and saw a group of people leave the scene after the shots were fired, Moloney said.
Moloney also said a handgun appeared to be left at the crime scene.
"There may have been more than one car leaving the scene," Moloney said. "This may have stemmed from an altercation from earlier today, and it may have occurred here or somewhere else.
"This does not appear to be a stranger-on-stranger crime," he added.
Moloney said police haven't ruled out the possibility of gang involvement, but there was nothing clear cut at the scene to suggest the homicide was gang-related.
Moloney said several 911 calls were made about 8:30 p.m., and police arrived seven minutes later.
Police as of press time were still trying to determine whether the victim lived at the above Caboose Court address.
Caboose Court is near the intersection of Lawrenceville Highway and Sugarloaf Parkway.
