Patrol car rammed by fleeing suspect

•NORCROSS - An alleged drunk driver attempted to flee from a police traffic stop on Sunday and rammed his vehicle into a patrol car, according to a police report.

An officer tried to pull over a man for driving his red 1995 Isuzu Rodeo erratically on South Norcross Tucker Road about 1 a.m. Instead of stopping, the driver continued and turned on several streets, according to a police report.

The driver reportedly ran a red light at Rockbridge Road and then slammed on his brakes. One of the police cars was forced to make an evasive maneuver to avoid striking the suspect's vehicle. The driver rammed the Isuzu into the patrol car and kept on driving.

The suspect continued a short distance, then once again slammed on his brakes and struck the patrol car as it skidded to a halt in front of him.

Eventually police captured Fernando Martinez, who appeared confused and said, "I didn't do anything wrong; what's the problem?" a police report stated.

He is charged with aggravated assault, obstruction and DUI.

Manager tries to pin down shoplifter

•NORCROSS - A suspected shoplifter threatened to run over a store manager who was attempting to detain her Monday at The Forum at 5155 Peachtree Parkway.

An employee observed the suspect selecting four full-size bed quilts worth $600 and walking out of Pottery Barn without paying, according to a police report.

The store manager confronted the woman at her vehicle, but she immediately became irate and defensive.

The woman got into her vehicle to leave, but the one-way design of the parking lot made her only avenue of escape blocked by where the manager was standing. She yelled, "Move or I'll run you down!" and then rapidly accelerated toward the manager, the police report stated.

The manager darted out of the way before being struck. The suspect is described as a tall, dark-skinned black woman with her brown hair tied back in a long ponytail.

She was wearing a red and white jacket and a red hat, according to the report.
