GAINESVILLE

STOKES, GLENDA

Glenda Loftis Stokes, 67, of Gainesville and formerly Dunwoody, died peacefully May 8, at home from complications of her six year struggle with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Her final days were spent in the home she designed and built with her husband, Tom Stokes. Their children nicknamed the Italian inspired dwelling "Villa Norte" based on it's spectacular views from a hill overlooking Lake Lanier below, the Blueridge Mountains in the distance and emerald green forest between. Her entire family was with her in her home during her final weeks enjoying their time together and replaying their fondest memories from Glenda's life. Glenda is survived by her husband, Tom; their son, Tom, Jr., his wife, Helena, and their children, Thomas and Emma Grace; daughter, Allison and her husband, Mike Sapp; son, Stan and his wife, Patty, and their children, Sam, Chris, Sarah and Hannah; mother, Opal Loftis; sister, Kay Lambert; and brother, Randy Loftis. Glenda was an integral part of Lindmont Inc., and S & L Mortgage and Investments, Inc., family real estate investment companies with her husband and his sister, Mona Stokes LaVallee, recently deceased, and Mona's husband, Ted. Despite her involvement with the business Glenda's first priority was always her children and family. She loved horticulture and for many years was a member of the Dunwoody North Garden Club. Her home is enhanced with beautiful flowering plants and shrubs. With her appreciation for the arts Glenda assembled quite an array of pieces which reflect her personal sense of whimsical elegance as perhaps best illustrated by the concert pianist portrait of Bugs Bunny hanging in her entrance foyer. Glenda's remains will be cremated and interred in the family plot in the City of Decatur Cemetery during a private family service. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service celebrating her life at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 15 in the "Historic" chapel of Decatur First United Methodist Church, 318 Sycamore St. (corner of Sycamore and Commerce) in Decatur. Guests are invited to reconvene immediately following the ceremony for a luncheon in her memory at the Atlanta Botanical Garden at 1345 Piedmont Ave. NE adjacent to Piedmont Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Leukemia-Lymphoma Society at http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org or (800)462-7831.
