LAWRENCEVILLE - A 44-year-old mother was killed and her teenage son and a Norcross man were seriously injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle collision in Lawrenceville.
A 1995 Dodge Neon was westbound on McKendree Church Road at 7:35 a.m. when the driver stopped at a stop sign, police said. The Dodge then turned left in front of a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling through the intersection northbound on Duluth Highway. The Jeep reportedly slammed into the Neon. The driver of the Neon, Beatrice Williams, and her son, 19-year-old Barrett Johnson, both of Lawrenceville, were hospitalized at Gwinnett Medical Center and DeKalb Medical Center respectively. Williams died several hours later as a result of her injuries, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for Gwinnett County Police Department. Johnson was listed in serious condition at press time Thursday. The driver of the Jeep, 24-year-old Marco Lopez of Norcross, was also transported to North Fulton Hospital in serious condition. It was not immediately clear who was at fault in the accident, Moloney said. The intersection is controlled by stop signs, which are located only on McKendree Church Road.More like this story
